(a) For shipment, your handlebars are secured to the frame and fork of
your bicycle. Carefully remove the binding straps and protective packing material to release the handlebars.
(b) Bring your handlebar stem up to the vertical position.
Remove the faceplate of the stem by removing the four
retaining bolts with the included hex wrench.
(c) Install the handlebars into the stem and replace the
faceplate. Tighten the retaining bolts completely.

In the folded position, your handlebar should be oriented as below. The handlebars,
brake lever, and shifter should not interfere with the wheel, frame or optional basket.

To orient your handlebars in this position, you may need to make orientation
adjustments to the handlebar stem base, stem and handlebars.
First, ensure that the
handlebar stem base and
stem are in line with the
frame.
To make adjustments to their
orientation, loosen the
handlebar stem and stem
bolts, with the included hex
wrench, reorient, and
retighten completely.
To make adjustments to the
handlebar orientation, loosen
the stem faceplate, rotate the handlebars and retighten the faceplate completely.
You may also need to make
adjustments to the grip shifter
orientation and brake levers
for optimal positioning.
Your internal hub system
Your BARCELONA Citizen Bike includes a Shimano Nexus internal hub.
Though your hub system is relatively maintenance free, this system requires regular
inspection to ensure proper shifting. If your shifting requires adjustment or is not
operating properly, please check for the proper adjustment.
To adjust the hub, first set your grip shifter to
second gear.
Next, remove the protective cover to expose
the hub pulley by removing the retaining screw
and cover.
Note that the hub pulley has a red indicator line
that may or not be visible in the 2nd gear
position.

For a properly adjusted hub, this red indicator line will be evenly aligned with the
threaded axle end. Shift your grip shifter between gears to note the travel of the
pulley and to reveal the position of the red indicator line if needed. Return the grip
shifter to 2nd gear.
To adjust the position of the red
indicator line, you will need to
adjust the gear cable tension by
rotating the barrel adjuster until
proper alignment is achieved.
You may need to release the lock
nut on the barrel adjuster before
making any adjustments.
After completing your adjustment,
tighten the lock nut and replace
the pulley cover.
